The grand main building, with its blue-tiled roof and white walls, symbolizes the image of the “Blue Sky with a White Sun.” Must-see highlights include the bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek inside the main hall, the hourly changing of the honor guard performed by the Armed Forces, and the surrounding landmarks such as Liberty Square Arch, the National Concert Hall, and the National Theater (collectively known as the National Performing Arts Center). Transportation: Take the MRT Tamsui–Xinyi Line or Songshan–Xindian Line to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station. The site is within walking distance from Exit 5. Recommended visiting time: Approximately 2–3 hours. Visitors may also plan a full day to explore the main hall, attend a concert or performance, or visit nearby attractions such as the Presidential Office Building and 228 Peace Memorial Park. Main Hall and Bronze Statue The main hall stands 70 meters high and is reached by 89 granite steps, symbolizing Chiang Kai-shek’s age at the time of his passing. Inside the hall sits a 6.3-meter-tall bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek. A solemn honor guard changing ceremony takes place every hour. Liberty Square and Arch Formerly known as the “Great Centrality and Perfect Uprightness Arch,” Liberty Square is now a popular venue for large-scale cultural events, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and democratic gatherings in Taipei. National Performing Arts Center The National Concert Hall and National Theater are located on either side of the main hall. Designed in a traditional Chinese palace style, they regularly host major music, theater, and performing arts events. Park Landscape and Ecology The spacious grounds feature a wide variety of trees and flowers. Plum blossoms and cherry blossoms bloom in winter and spring, while classical Chinese garden elements such as Yunhan Pond and Guanghua Pond create a relaxing atmosphere ideal for strolling. Cultural Exhibitions On the first floor of the memorial hall, visitors can explore the Chiang Kai-shek Presidential Memorial Exhibition Room and rotating art exhibitions, all free of charge.
